But when it does rain (when we surface) it's cool, and though our recent social experience is muted, so too is the direction our social lives will go. This means that we can relax a little and wait for the wave, or the sun and clouds, or the ocean to pull us one way or another. But, unlike the wave, (which could be a person in this extended analogy about waves and oceans) the rain is like an anti social web with none of the pejorative rings that are given to those words "anti" and "social." And it holds us aloft, for a little while, and we can gain some perspective on our lifes. This happens when we know people that have very restricted social boundaries with us, like a bank manager I suppose. One couldn't really move forward in a relationship with their banker, and so things are safe. And if we have enough of these restricted relationships to hold us aloft we can better plan for those rogue waves, or plan how to surface when we sink back down into our social delusion (which is the ocean just to help you follow).
But what about you in all of this? For surely, some things must be constant in the ocean. A rock for instance is a pretty solid character in the ocean. It too will disolve, but not, most times, by the attack of one rogue wave; many waves are needed to displace the rock, and many are needed to displace you. Let's just hope that the rain is clean enough not to hide you in all of this, and that the bankers and politicians that hold together our agnostic web of relationships do not clutter our views.
