The Tides

What are the tides if they are not very long waves? They must be, but, they don't have close to the same character as the waves I've discussed from time to time. That is, the tides could not be persons. They might be groups, but it's not clear how they can be a group if I've already said what is the case for localized parts of the ocean.

But, there are unquestionably general trends that force our social systems in one way or another. And, these are things that none of us (save the moon) can so easily overcome. And maybe this is for the best, this ebb and flow, because we shouldn't think too quickly that all of the waves of friendship, the rain of our bland circumstance, and the white noise of the social ocean can all be got around at once. That would be foolish.

But foolish too to think that we cannot transcend all of these things in time.
